As a health coach my goal is to empower my clients to feel successful in all areas of their health and well-being. Many health concerns are rooted in lack of quality sleep. The body is building and repairing during a deep sleep. The body begins to break down when it does not have time to repair. If is very common to have poor quality and or inadequate sleep. Stress is perhaps the biggest reason people have difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. We may not be able to change our situation regarding stress, however we can make simple yet significant changes to help our body to get the sleep it needs. Through my education and experience I have learned some key steps to getting a quality night’s sleep. Teachings of Feng Shui emphasis creating a calming beautiful décor like you were walking into an exquisite suite, so no clutter, including under the bed, no TV, perhaps beeswax candles and fresh flowers for a nice touch. This was a great opportunity for me to create a fresh look in the bedroom. I purchased a new wall hanging, curtains and decor items. Those items under the bed were relocated and it felt so good to have a beautiful space. A quality mattress is essential along with bedding that will keep one warm, but not hot, as you lower the thermostat at night. I use a down duvet in winter then change it out to a light blanket in the summer. Through my health coaching studies I discovered the significant health benefits of Earthing. The best option is to place your bare feet on the ground outside, but living in Alberta that is not always realistic. I purchased products that keep me grounded, including ‘Earthing’ bedsheets and pillowcases. For information about ‘Earthing’ visit www.heathershealthcoaching.com. A few more tips include ensuring the room is 100 percent dark, install blinds, cover alarm clock and remove all electronic devices from the room. In preparation for bed; turn off all screens at least one hour prior to bed. Plan to be in bed at the same time every day of the week. Create a bedtime self-care ritual including using Ameo essential oils such as True Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Tranquility, Relaxing Touch. Depending upon the oil you may wish to us them in the bath, diffuse into the room or place directly onto the body. Lavender on the bottom of your feet or at the base of your head works well. The simplicity of deep breathing and meditation using a headset for better sound and help prepare our body for quality sleep. Just start with ideas that resonate with you and then continue to explore all the ways that can improve your sleep. Now is the time to take the first step to empower yourself for better health.
